How to set your Casio and G-Shock – time, date, alarms and daylight saving time
The guide goes through the settings module by module – digital DW-5600 and F-91W, analog-digital GA-2100 and GA-100, Tough Solar with Bluetooth and radio-controlled GW-M5610U – covering button placement, what the display shows, and how to set the hands. You will also find sections on alarms, the hourly chime, daylight saving time, and the most common mistakes.
Short answer
On a digital G-Shock, you set the time by pressing A (top left) in time mode until the seconds flash, switching fields with C (bottom left), changing the value with B (top right), and saving with A. Analog-digital models like the GA-2100 instead require you to hold A until the city code is displayed. The exact button sequence depends on the module number on the back cover, and below are the steps for the most common modules.

Casio builds its watches around a movement with a module number, and the module determines how the buttons work. Two G-Shock watches that look almost identical can therefore be set in different ways. The guide takes one module type at a time: the buttons' placement, what the display shows, and what you do when the watch beeps every hour. The steps are taken from Casio's own manuals for each module.
How do you find the module number on your Casio?
The module number is a three- or four-digit number on the back cover of the watch, regardless of whether you have a G-Shock, a Casio Vintage, or a Timeless. The model name is not enough, because the same model can have different modules depending on the year. Search for the module number on Casio's support page (support.casio.com) to get the right user manual.
Digital G-Shock: how to set the time and date on the DW-5600 (module 3229)
The buttons are placed as follows: A top left, B top right, C bottom left, and D bottom right. Newer DW-5600 variants with module 3525 have the same button sequence.

-
Go to time mode
Press C until the watch shows the regular time with the day of the week and date. C switches mode in the order time, alarm, timer, stopwatch.
-
Open setting mode with A
Press A. The seconds start flashing, which means you are in setting mode. Press B while they are flashing to reset them.
-
Switch fields with C and change with B
Each press of C moves the flashing in the order seconds, hour, minutes, year, month, day. Press B to increase the flashing digit. Hold B for fast scrolling.
-
Choose 12 or 24 hours
Press D while a field is flashing to switch between 12- and 24-hour display. In 12-hour mode, PM is displayed in the afternoon.
-
Save with A
Press A to go back to time mode. The day of the week is set automatically after the date.
Casio with three buttons: F-91W (module 593)
The simple models in the Casio Timeless series, such as the F-91W, have L top left (backlight), C bottom left, and A bottom right. Press C three times from the regular time display so the seconds flash, and press A to reset them. L goes on to hour, minute, month, date, and day of the week, and A increases the value in each field (hold A for fast scrolling). Finish with C. You set the alarm in alarm mode (one press of C): L opens the hour, A increases, L goes to the minute, A increases, L finishes. Each press of A in alarm mode then switches between both off, only alarm, only hour signal, and both on.
Analog-digital G-Shock: GA-2100 (module 5611) and GA-100 (module 5081)
The buttons are placed as on the DW-5600: A top left, B top right, C bottom left, D bottom right. The difference is that you must first select the home city, because the hands and world time are calculated from it.
-
Hold A in time mode
On the GA-2100, you hold A until the flashing SET turns off and the city code is displayed. On the GA-100, you hold A for about three seconds until the city code flashes at the bottom right. The hands move out of the way so that you can see the display.
-
Select home city
Scroll with D (forward) and B (backward) to a city in the same time zone as Sweden. Always select the home city before changing anything else.
-
Switch fields with C
Each press of C moves the flashing in the order daylight saving time, 12/24-hour format, seconds, hour, minutes, year, month, day. Change with D (plus) and B (minus). One press of D resets the seconds, and on the GA-100, D also switches daylight saving time and 12/24.
-
Save with A
Press A. The hands go back and follow the digital time.
-
Correct the hands if they do not match the display
After a shock or magnetic influence, the hands can end up in the wrong position. GA-2100: hold A for at least five seconds until SUB flashes, move the day of the week hand to SU with D and B, press C so that 0:00 flashes, set the hour and minute hand to 12 o'clock with D and B, press A. GA-100: hold D for about three seconds until H-SET is displayed, set the speed hand to 50 (12 o'clock) with D, press C, set the hour and minute hand to 12 o'clock with D (clockwise) and B (counter-clockwise), press A.
Tough Solar with Bluetooth: GA-B2100 (module 5689)

Here it is easiest to let the phone handle the time. Install the CASIO WATCHES app, hold C for at least three seconds until CNCT flashes and approve the pairing in the app. Then the watch corrects the time four times a day, around 00:30, 06:30, 12:30, and 18:30, as long as the phone is within range and the app is running. Manually: hold A for at least two seconds in time mode until the home city is displayed, select the city with B or D, press C, select daylight saving time with D (AUTO, OFF, or ON), and press A. You set the time and date from the same screen: move the flashing with C, change with B or D (D resets the seconds), and save with A. How the world time mode is used is explained in our guide on GMT and world time.
Radio-controlled Tough Solar: GW-M5610U (module 3495)
A radio-controlled watch retrieves the time itself, but only if the home city is a city where the signal can be received. Therefore, set the home city first, in the same way as on the GA-B2100: hold A for at least two seconds, scroll with B and D, press C, select daylight saving time with D (AUTO only works where there is a signal), and press A. If you want to force a reception, place the watch by a window, hold D for at least two seconds until RCVD flashes, and wait. The reception normally takes three to eight minutes and works best at night. Manual time, date, and 12/24 are set as on the GA-B2100. If LOW or CHG flashes, the battery is low: place the watch in light until time mode is displayed again, but not in strong heat.
How do you set the alarm and turn off the hour signal?
If the watch beeps every full hour, the hour signal is on. It is turned off in alarm mode, and the button sequence depends on the module:
- DW-5600 (3229): press C once from time mode. Press A until the hour flashes, switch fields with C (hour, minutes, day, month), increase with B, and save with A. Each press of B in alarm mode then switches between both off, only alarm, only hour signal, and both on.
- GA-2100 (5611) and GA-100 (5081): go to alarm mode with C. D scrolls between the alarms, snooze, and the hour signal SIG. When SIG is displayed, you press A to switch between ON and off. You set an alarm by displaying it, holding A until the hour flashes, switching between hour and minute with C, changing with D and B, and saving with A.
- GA-B2100 (5689) and GW-M5610U (3495): go to alarm mode, press D until SIG is displayed, and press A. You set the alarm time by selecting the alarm with D, holding A for at least two seconds until the hour flashes, changing with B or D, going to the minutes with C, and saving with A.
You stop an alarm that sounds with any button.
How do you change to daylight saving time in March and October?
The DW-5600 and F-91W have no daylight saving time setting: you change the hour by hand according to the steps above. The GA-2100 and GA-100 have a DST setting: enter setting mode with A, press C once so that DST is displayed, switch ON or OFF with D, and save with A. The GA-B2100 and GW-M5610U have the AUTO mode, which handles the change via the app or radio signal, respectively. If the mode is set to ON or OFF, the watch does not change itself.
Common mistakes and what the display is trying to say
- The watch beeps every hour: the hour signal SIG is on. Turn it off in alarm mode.
- The numbers flash: the watch is in setting mode. Press A to save and exit, or wait a few minutes.
- The time jumps one hour wrong: wrong home city or wrong daylight saving time mode. Check the home city first, then DST.
- The hands show a different time than the display: correct the hands' zero position, see step 5 for the GA-2100 and GA-100.
- The display is blank or shows LOW or CHG: solar models need light. A battery model needs a new battery, see our guide on changing the battery in the watch yourself.
Do you need tools?
No, all the settings above are done with the watch's buttons. Tools are only needed when you are going to change the battery or shorten a metal bracelet. Then our 24-piece tool kit contains a case opener for both screw-down and press-fit back covers, tweezers for the battery, and a bracelet adjuster for the links.

If you want to avoid setting the watch, a model with Bluetooth or radio control is the easiest choice, while a digital DW-5600 gives full control with four buttons. If you prefer an analog format with app sync, the technology is in Casio Edifice. If you are unsure about the model, our guide on which G-Shock you should choose will help you.

Common questions about setting Casio and G-Shock
Where do I find the module number on my Casio?
On the back cover. It is a three- or four-digit number, for example 3229, 5611, or 593. The module number, not the model name, determines which manual and button sequence applies.
Why does my Casio beep every hour?
The hour signal is on. Go to alarm mode, scroll to SIG, and press A (on the DW-5600, you instead press B until the hour signal indicator disappears).
Why do the numbers flash on the display?
The watch is in setting mode. Press A to save and go back to regular time. If you do not touch any button for a few minutes, the watch leaves the mode by itself.
How do I switch between 12- and 24-hour display?
On the DW-5600, you press D while a field is flashing in setting mode. On the GA-2100 and GA-100, 12/24 is its own field that you reach with C and switch with D. On the F-91W, you press A in regular time display. On the GA-B2100 and GW-M5610U, you press C eight times from the home city screen and switch with D.
Does a G-Shock set itself to daylight saving time?
Only models with Bluetooth or radio control, and only if the daylight saving time mode is set to AUTO. Digital models like the DW-5600 and F-91W you change by hand, and the GA-2100 and GA-100 have a DST setting that you turn on or off yourself.
The hands on my GA-2100 do not show the same time as the display – what do I do?
Correct the hands' zero position: hold A for at least five seconds in time mode until SUB flashes, set the day of the week hand to SU, press C, and set the hour and minute hand to 12 o'clock with D and B. Save with A and check that the hands follow the display.
